Meaford's
FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY

Background of the Friends of the Meaford Library
A crisis in Library funding caused great concern in Meaford in 1993. Our Library, like most in the province, was caught in the web of government cutbacks. It was probable that budget reductions would drastically change the services our Library could offer, produce major cutbacks in hours, perhaps cause it to close. Many concerned citizens were moved to action.

The purpose of our Newsletter: Among Friends
We know that there is solid public support for our library: a small but vital library that serves the residents of Meaford extremely well. Our Friends organization with more than 100 members is living testimony to this interest. Each Friend demonstrates great volunteer spirit, usually responding quickly and selflessly to appeals for assistance of all kinds. However, sometimes we are victims of our own success. As an organization grows, very often easy, natural and friendly communication becomes harder to maintain.

It is our hope that this newsletter, which will appear twice annually, in Spring and in fall, will facilitate communication. It is the hope of the executive that an informed membership will become a more involved, active membership. It is only with the continuing active support of as many members as possible at as many levels as possible, including assuming leadership roles, that Friends will continue to be the vital, energetic and productive organization that it now is.
