The Meaford Business Improvement Area is an organization that has been active for two decades. We are an enthusiastic group of business people who have an investment in our community. We spend many hours of volunteer time serving our mandate - which as stipulated by the Ontario Municipal Act gives us responsibility for two things..... the Beautification and the Promotion of the downtown business community. We operate on a budget which is based on a self-regulated tax levy for all businesses within our downtown jurisdiction.

We organize several promotional "events" during the year including the Giant Downtown Yardsale and the Christmas Window Unveiling Street Party . These events bring families & visitors downtown to be entertained in an atmosphere of community spirit and neighbourliness.

To beautify our business centre, we decorate with flags, flower boxes and baskets, and special seasonal additions such as corn stalks and cedar boughs. We purchase the necessary hardware to keep our streets "welcoming" - such as refuse containers and benches. We help focus our merchants on "presentation" details such as: clean windows & storefronts, litter-free streets, "heritage" preservation and effective signage.

We advertise and discuss our ideas and activities to the community at large through our local newspaper.

We are in continual liaison with our Town council on many issues including: waste disposal, business tax by-laws, signage by-laws, utilities & services maintenance, economic development plans, inter-community projects, and strategic planning for the future.

In short, our B.I.A. is involved with any issue that may affect the future welfare of the downtown business community - whether political, social or economic in nature. As a group, we see ourselves as an active advocate for the future prosperity of Meaford!!
