After an absence of several years, Meaford once again has a day away program for people with chronic illness, disability or memory loss issues or communication challenges.
Stacy Goldie is a Team Leader for the Home and Community Support Services of Grey Bruce.
She says this program will run Wednesdays and Fridays and operates out of the Meaford General Hospital.
Goldie says volunteers and staff provide clients with a variety of stimulating activities that can range from musical activities, one on one interaction, socialization and recreation programs.
She says volunteers will pick up the clients at their door, provide transportation to the site and help with the day long activities, which includes a hot meal.
Goldie says the day away program is not only designed for the elderly but is a way of providing some relief for the care givers who get some time to themselves.
She says the program is not only open to the elderly but also anyone over the age of 18 who may have a physical disability.
