Meaford will have a new home for firefighters.
Council has accepted a tender from Don Construction in the range of 679 thousand dollars to build the new facility.
Councillor Cynthia Lemon says they're pleased with the amount, as they had allotted for about 705 thousand dollars.
Lemon also wants to put to rest any concerns about the cost with regards to municipality's current financial situation.
She says there will be no impact on the taxpayer, as the money for the project comes from reserve funds and other initiatives to raise money for a fire hall over the years.
Lemon adds it's very important the municipality have it's own fire hall, Chief and Fire Prevention Officer.
She says they have a very dedicated team of volunteer firefighters, but it's important to have the staff as well to be proactive in protecting the community.
The municipality did have shared fire services with Grey Highlands.
Lemon says they'll continue to service parts of Grey Highlands, but that community will pay Meaford for using those services.
Lemon adds construction should start fairly quickly, and barring any unforseen circumstances and bad weather, the hall will be open in December.
