New downtown building open.
Occupancy has begun at the Riverside Living senior/adult building in Meaford. The building is located on the Old Globe Mills property on the south side of Sykes Street in the municipality. Project Consultant, Peter Lush says an open house was held two weeks ago and two of the suites were open for touring. Lush says there are around 12 people in the process of making arrangements to rent a suite -- there are 27 suites in total. They are currently finishing the lower level and creating 500 to 700 square feet of extra storage space for residents. There are 4 buildings on the property, all of which are on one floor and will have wheelchair access for seniors. Lush says the open house was a great success with a number of local residents and dignitaries attending, and bringing with them a number of questions. Lush says there is always a level of criticism, with seniors moving from a three-room home to a smaller apartment for the first time. Rent is around 1 thousand dollars, which is all inclusive, and rooms will be available when the construction is complete. Lush says the office is open on Saturday and Sunday from 11am-4pm in downtown Meaford at the bridge -- or interested applicants can call the real estate office and talk to Dave Smith or Greg Carrier at 705-444-7653. The building is expected to have full occupancy by the winter.
