More plans for wind turbines.
Not only will the flags be blowing in the wind at the Meaford Tank range, there could be a wind turbine as well. The Land Force Central Training Centre is planning to construct a turbine at the base possibly as early as next fall. Captain Corneilous Chisu is heading up the wind power project and says the turbine will generate 1.8 megawatts of power that will be sold to Hydro One. He says this is one way the Armed Forces is trying to reduce its dependency on less than environmental friendly power sources. Captain Chisu says they have been measuring the wind speeds off of Georgian Bay at the base for the past three years, and they are quite favourable for generating power. He says an the environmental assessment has been completed now they just have to get funding for the project. Captain Chisu says the turbine will not be visible from Highway 26 as it will be located near the rear of the base, close to Georgian Bay.
