New doctors for Meaford.
It appears the two doctors coming to Meaford will arrive in the Spring of 2006. Chair of the Meaford and Town of the Blue Mountains physician recruitment and retention committee Bob Mackey says they have been gathering information for the doctors. Dr. Reena Dhatt and Dr. Michel Gauthier requested a clinical setting, which is set up, and a number of orphan patients in the area. Orphan patients are those without a family doctor. Mackey says they have set up a phone number for anyone without a family doctor can call so they can get an accurate amount -- so far, around 600 people have called. Orphan patients can call is 599-3563 and leave their contact information on the machine or leave their name at the emergency in the Meaford General Hospital. Mackey says the doctors will be coming in the Spring because they had 3 months to get enough patients and the doctors would have had to take their kids out of school. They are currently located in Sudbury. Mackey says it will be a huge asset to the community when the doctors arrive and are encouraging all orphan patients to call so they can get accurate numbers.
