The Municipality
of Meaford is going to remain the Municipality of Meaford.
With the return of councillors Paul Hutchinson and Sam Luckhardt from sunny Cuba, town council returned to full strength Monday night and a bylaw to rescind the by-law that eliminated Georgian Highlands in favour of the Municipality of Meaford never even received consideration from council.
The first reading of the by-law was defeated in a 4-3 recorded vote with council voting along the same lines as previous name change votes. Hutchinson and Luckhardt's absence from last week's meeting allowed a resolution to pass asking for a by-law to rescind the name change.
There was no discussion about the name change Monday night. But CAO Chris Webb said after the meeting had concluded that he expected to receive official confirmation from the province on the name change within days.
