MINIATURE HORSE SHOWS

RULES for Classes - 2008 (Miniature Horse Show - Meaford & St Vincent Fair): Section 5
The following are a list of rules that will serve as a
guideline for each class for the show day.
Please note the Judge's decision is final.
Section 5, Class #1 Miniature Costume
Class (Small Ring)
- Open to all Miniature Horses and their handlers
- Judged on originality of the costume and on the presentation
- Will be shown at a walk both ways of the ring and lined up in the middle
for final judging
- Costumes must be considered safe
- There will be a short time break to allow for Miniature Horse exhibitors
to have time to change out of their costumes and get ready for the next
Miniature Horse Show class.
- Exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #2 Miniature Foal of 2008, should
be on deck to go in the Small Ring.
Section 5, Class #2 Miniature Foal
(born 2008) (Small Ring)
- Open to Miniature Horses fillies, colts or geldings born this
year 2008
- Foals may be shown clipped or in full coat
- Judged on conformation *
*When judging line classes such as the Foal, Mare, Stallion or Gelding classes, they are judged on the conformation of the horse (this means the overall look of the horse). The Standard of Perfection of a Miniature Horse is one in General of "a small, sound, well-balanced horse which gives the impression of strength, agility and alertness. The disposition should be eager and friendly, not skittish." In size, the Miniature Horse must measure no more than 38" at the withers. Since the breed objective is the smallest possible perfect horse, preference in judging shall be given to the smallest, all other factors being equal. Priority in judging shall be in this order: 1. Soundness; 2. Balance, and conformity to the standard of perfection and 3. Size." (Quoted from the 2005 AMHR Rule book)

Section 5, Class #3 Miniature Mare
(Small Ring)
- Open to all ages of Miniature Horses mares with the exception
of 2008 fillies
- Horses may be shown clipped or in full coat
- Judged on conformation (as mentioned earlier)
- exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #4 Miniature Stallion, should
be on deck to go in the small ring
Section 5, Class #4 Miniature Stallion
(Small Ring)
- Open to all ages of Miniature Horses stallions, with the exception
of 2008 colts
- horses may be shown clipped or in full coat
- Judged on conformation (as mentioned earlier)
- exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #5 Miniature Gelding, should be
on deck to go in the small ring
Section 5, Class #5 Miniature Gelding
(Small Ring)
- Open to all Miniature Horses geldings with the exception of 2008
geldings
- Horses may be shown clipped or in full coat
- Judged on conformation (as mentioned earlier)
- Exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #6 Miniature Novice YOUTH Showmanship,
should be on deck to go in the Small Ring.
Section 5, Class #6 Miniature Novice
YOUTH Showmanship (Small Ring)
- Open to all Miniature Horse exhibitors 17 years of age and under
as of Fair day who have never won a 1st place ribbon in a Showmanship class
- Horses may be shown clipped or in full coat
- Judged only on the Handler. The horse is merely a prop to show the ability
of the handler
- Judged on the appearance of the Exhibitor and how they perform the set
showmanship pattern
- Exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #7 Miniature Novice ADULT Showmanship,
should be on deck to go in the Small Ring.
Section 5, Class #7 Miniature Novice
ADULT Showmanship (Small Ring)
- Open to all Miniature Horse exhibitors 18 years of age & over
as of Fair day who have never won a 1st place ribbon in a Showmanship class
- Horses may be shown clipped or in full coat
- Judged only on the Handler. The horse is merely a prop to show the ability
of the handler
- Judged on the appearance of the Exhibitor and how they perform the set
showmanship pattern
- Exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #8 Miniature Solid Colour, should
be on deck to go in the Small Ring.
Section 5, Class #8 Miniature Solid
Colour (Small Ring)
- Open to all Miniature Horses who are not in Multi colour class
- Horses may be shown clipped or in full coat
- Judged 100% on colour, judges preference
- Exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #9 Miniature Multi-Colour, should
be on deck to go in the Small Ring.
Section 5, Class #9 Miniature Multi-Colour
(Small Ring)
- Open to all Miniature Horses; Pintos & Appaloosas, not in
Solid Colour Class
- Horses may be shown clipped or in full coat
- Judged 100% on colour, judges preference
- Exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #10 Miniature Ball & Pylon,
should be on deck to go in the Small Ring.
Section 5, Class #10 Miniature Ball
& Pylon (Small Ring)
- Pylons supplied by Hydro One
- Open to all ages of Miniature Horses
- Horses may be shown clipped or in full coat
- Timed event
- Handlers must run with their horses to first pylon, pick up the ball,
run to the second pylon and place ball on it, run back through the finish
line
- exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #11 Miniature Barrels, should
be on deck to go in the small ring
Section 5, Class #11 Miniature Barrels
(Timed) (Small Ring)
- Open to all Miniature Horses at least 1 year old
- Timed event; time penalties will be added to any faults occurred in the
course.
- Handlers must run their horses through a clover shaped pattern around
3 barrels and run back through the finish line.
- Exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #12 Miniature Obstacle in Halter,
should be on deck to go in the small ring.
Section 5, Class #12 Miniature Obstacle
in Halter (Timed) (Small Ring)
- Open to all Miniature Horses at least 1 year old
- Timed event; time penalties will be added to any faults occurred in the
course.
- Judged on the manner of horse's performance through the correctly completed
course.
- Exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #13 Miniature Jumper, should be
on deck to go in the small ring.

Section 5, Class #13 Miniature Jumper
(Small Ring)
- Open to all Miniature Horses of jumping age (3yrs of age &
older)
- The person showing the horse may NOT jump the jumps with the horse
- Judged on time and accurate completion of the course; time penalties
will be added to any faults occurred in the course. Horses will be faulted
for any knockdowns or refusals of fences.
- Will include a timed Jump off for those who have a clear first round.
- Any unsound horse will be eliminated.

- Miniature Puissance Class, should be on deck to go in the small ring.
Section 5, SHOW SPECIAL Miniature
"Puissance" Class (Small Ring)
- "Puissance" is a word meaning "powerful",
or having the power to do something. In this class, power will be in the
height in which the horse can jump.
- One single jump is raised each round until, by method of elimination,
there is one winner; maximum 3 jump offs. Entry fee of $5 per entry is
collected at beginning of class; winner takes all of prize money collected
and will be awarded the money at the end of the class.
- In the event of a tie after the 3rd round, prize money is shared equally.
- Exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #14 Miniature Open Driving
- Reinsmanship class, should be on deck to go in the small ring. There
will be a short break to allow the exhibitors to harness their horses for
the next driving classes.
Section 5, Class #14 Miniature Open
Driving - Reinsmanship (Small Ring)
- Open to all Miniature Horses of driving age (3yrs and over)
- Judged on the Driver's performance, ability to handle the horse, overall
appearance and impression of the horse and driving vehicle.
- Driver's may be asked by the judge to perform a short individual pattern
in order to assess their driving skills
- Exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #15 Miniature Open Pleasure Driving
- Working, should be on deck to go in the small ring
Section 5, Class #15 Miniature Open
Pleasure Driving - Working (Small Ring)
- Open to all Miniature Horses of driving age (3yrs and over)
- Judged on performance, manners and way of going, overall appearance and
impression of the horse and driving vehicle.
- Exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #16 Miniature Youth Pleasure Driving,
should be on deck to go in the small ring.
Section 5, Class #16 Miniature Youth
Pleasure Driving (Small Ring)
- Open to all Youth drivers 17 years and under as of Fair day
- For safety reasons, a Senior Driver may ride in the vehicle with the
Youth driver (however the Youth driver shall be in full control of the
horse without assistance. The Senior Driver must not assist the Youth driver
in any way other than in an emergency).
- Open to all Miniature Horses of driving age (3yrs and over)
- Judged on performance, manners and way of going, overall appearance and
impression of the horse and driving vehicle.
- Exhibitors showing in Section 5, Class #17 Miniature Obstacle Driving,
should be on deck to go in the small ring. Courses will be posted prior
to class so all exhibitors can preview the course. Course posting location
will be announced.
Section 5, Class #17 Miniature Obstacle
Driving (Small Ring)
- Open to all Miniature Horses of driving age (3yrs and over)
- Judged on accurate completion of the course; penalties will be added
to any errors in the course.
