Harley Greenfield - Candidate - Deputy Mayor

-INITIATIVES FOR NEW COUNCIL TERM-

-Hold at least 4 council meetings per year in former “Sydenham” area; 2 in Bognor; and 2 in Woodford. Also increase number of committee meetings in western part of our great municipality.

-Help promote attractions such as Leith United Church and Tom Thompson burial site, Story Book Park, make them an even more important part of our community.

-Harmonize Garbage and Recycling collection on same day, initiate cardboard pick-up in urban area, revisit “big bin” service once a year for all our beach associations.

-Partner with Dept. of National Defence at Camp Meaford in financing new Fire Station…They are continuous users of Fire Department.

-Partner with Colleges/Universities for educational credit courses at Meaford Hall, create an active academy for Drama, Dance, Music and Art.

- Make Beautiful Joe Park more compatible and “user friendly.” Change the entrance to accommodate 2-way traffic and renovate the washrooms, create more “grass” areas, paths and benches.

-Expand the camping and trailer facilities at Memorial Park, while still maintaining the pleasant treed atmosphere.

-Examine possibility of early retirement packages for more veteran employees, perhaps they don’t need to be replaced- by bringing in younger staff, the municipality will reduce wages ( and accompanying benefits), and eliminate lengthy Holiday periods that negatively affect work schedules.

-Begin serious negotiations with Stanley Knight Flooring Ltd. Regarding possible relocation of Business, thus liberating prime waterfront property for development.

-Work in partnership with Rotary Club and others to enhance and reshape the valuable east Harbour area, continue the present park like initiatives, finally schedule and end of date for campers and trailers in Harbour area.

-If demand is necessary, discuss seriously with Owen Sound possible water extensions in the Leith-Annan area.

-“Clean up” our Municipality, both urban and rural, pass firm but reasonable, enforceable property standards bylaws to make our community more presentable.

-Maintain close connections with our neighbours in Southgate concerning their Gasification Project. If necessary, consider some capital contributions if the venture is approved.

-The waste water treatment plant must be expanded or relocated, guarantee the public is totally aware at all times of the process underway.

-Continue and strengthen the new 5 years Roads and Bridges Plan. Inventory all equipment, sewer and water lines, and know their future life expectations.

- Ensure the Meaford Hall is a marketable “facility for hire,” with a level playing field for all potential customers, while guaranteeing the building offers attractions affordable to all members of our community.

-Invite Secondary School students (who reside in our community) to become members of some of our more “high profile” committees (Public Works, Waste Management, Recreation and Culture). They need a voice in our area’s future.

For effective, efficient, caring governance in the Municipality of Meaford, re-elect Harley Greenfield Deputy Mayor.
