Day
1 Arrive
in Honolulu
Arrive at Honolulu Airport,
transfer
to Waikiki hotel; unpack, rest, meet and greet before dinner.
Day 2
Diamond
Head Hike
This morning we will take a
guided
hike to the top of Diamond Head; learn about this important geological
and strategic landmark, sweeping views await you at the top; afternoon
and evening on your own to enjoy lovely Waikiki; swim at the world's
most
famous beach. Approx. 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Day 3
Bike
the Ka'a'awa Valley
After a breathtaking drive
through
the Ko'olau Mtns., ride the sacred and historic Ka'a'awa Valley
(nicknamed
Jurassic Valley); you will be surrounded by jagged green mountains, red
clay soil, and the turquoise Pacific; visit an ancient Hawaiian
homestead,
and a WWII bunker; helmets, bikes, bottled water, snacks and lunch
included.
Approx. 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Day 4
Natural
Highlights of Oahu
A professionally-guided
eco-tour
of some of Oahu's natural highlights; Paiko Lagoon Wildlife Sanctuary,
Hanauma Bay, Halona Blowhole, Makapu'u Lookout, ocean tide pools,
25,000
year old Kaupo lava flow, Waimanalo Beach, Enchanted Lake Bird
Sanctuary,
Ulupou Heiau, Pali Lookout. Travel by van but explore several
stops
on foot, seeing rare Hawaiian birds, flora, fauna, oceanlife and
geologic
creations. Approx. 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Day 5 On
Your
Own
No excursions are scheduled
today,
giving you a chance to do your own thing. Lie on the beach?
Take a surfing lesson? Visit the Honolulu Zoo? The Bishop
Museum?
The Fort DeRussy Military Museum? How about a walking tour of
Honolulu’s
Historic Chinatown? Suggestions are too numerous to list!
Day 6 Pearl
Harbour
Early departure for the
Visitors
Centre at Pearl Harbour; visit the museum, view film of the events of
December
7, 1941, visit the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial; tour the U.S.S. Bowfin
Submarine
($10 US extra) and the U.S.S. Missouri Battleship ($16 US
extra).
7:00 a.m. - afternoon, depending on tours chosen.
Day 7
Rainforest
Hike and Downhill Bike
Hike to a waterfall through a
rainforest
reserve amidst bamboo, wild ginger, banana trees, towering tropical
specimens;
bike down Mt. Tantalus, with views of Punchbowl Crater, Honolulu, and
Diamond
Head; rain gear, bikes, helmets, bottled water, snacks and lunch
included.
Approx. 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Day 8
Sacred
Sites of the North Shore
Drive north up the central
valley
between the Ko'olau and Wai'anae Mtn ranges to visit these sacred
Hawaiian
sites; Kukaniloko (Royal Birthing Stones), Leina ka uhane (Leaping of
Souls
rock), Pu'u O Mahuka heiau (ancient temple for human sacrifices),
Kaneaukai
Ko'a (fishing shrine to Kane) at Waimea Bay. The oceanside hike
to
Leaping of Souls rock is approx. 6km, bottled water is provided.
Lunch will be picnic-style, at own cost. 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Day 9
Scenic
Seaplane Flight
Sleep-in this morning or enjoy
the
sunrise over Waikiki Beach. This afternoon we have the privilege
of seeing magnificent Oahu from the air. The seaplane flight
gives
us a whole new appreciation of Oahu's volcanic origin; see Diamond Head
in it's majestic entirety; coral reefs lying below the crystal-clear
Pacific;
Hanauma Bay and Koko Head; the misty Ko'olau Mtns, and fly
through
the steep valley between Kane'ohe Bay and Pearl Harbour. While
waiting
for your turn in the air, enjoy snacks and beverages on the floating
dock,
with supreme views of Honolulu and Waikiki. Approx 1:30 p.m. -
4:30
p.m., flight times will vary.
Day 10 On
Your
Own
You have your final day free
to
do as little or as much as you wish; buy souvenirs, visit yet another
of
the Waikiki area beaches; join the group for a farewell dinner at
Duke's
Canoe Club on the beach.
Day 11
Departure
Return transfer to airport for
flight
home, or extend your stay in the Hawaiian Islands (ask for details).
