Fisherman's Paradise - The Bighead
River
IN THE GOLDEN TOWN OF
Meaford Ontario Canada
The Town of Meaford is located on the
southern shore of Georgian Bay, on highway 26 between Collingwood and Owen
Sound. Well known for it's Fishing and Apple Orchards, this town of just
over 4000 people offers a full range of goods and services and a Home Town
atmosphere that will make you want to live here. The Bighead River, which
makes this community stand out from all the others, is world famous for
it's Rainbow Trout runs in the spring and fall. In late summer the Chinook
Salmon run starts up the river and provides lots of excitement for both
the novice and the expert angler. If you're a boat fisherman you'll love
fishing Georgian Bay off Meaford with it's cold clear water. An even lake
bottom makes downrigging a cinch and you can find deep water within a quarter
mile of shore. Starting at ice out the majority of boaters sit jigging
at the mouth of the harbour. Soon after that the downrigging gets going
and the boat fishing is excellent, all summer long and late into the fall.
If you're looking to catch rainbows, browns, skamania, laketrout/splake,
chinook salmon or whitefish, Meaford is the place to come to.
